Prince William and Kate spent the second day of their U.S. tour in Boston amid the royal’s racism row and the subject of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s new Netflix documentary.
The Prince and Princess of Wales visited Greentown Labs, the US’s largest cleantech incubator, and Roca, a non-profit organization working to prevent urban violence, before inspecting projects to reduce sea level rise.
The climate change-focused program culminates in the Friday Earthshot Awards, established by the Prince of Wales to inspire a new generation of climate innovators.
The trip was overshadowed by a racism scandal in England en route to Boston. Prince William’s mother, Lady Susan Hussey, has been forced to resign as a palace aide after making offensive comments to the boss of a British charity. Ngozi Fulani, a member of Sistah Space, Britain’s leading domestic abuse charity for black women, has described in detail the “horrific” situation where she was asked what part of Africa she was from.
Then, early Thursday, Netflix released the first trailer for a special documentary in which the Duke and Duchess of Sussex talk about their tumultuous years in the public eye.

The Prince and Princess of Wales’ final afternoon engagement on Thursday included learning about the significant climate challenges facing Boston. William and Kate traveled to East Boston to check out the city’s growing beach scene.
At Pierce Park, the royal couple will be visiting Boston’s waterfront past, present and future as guests of Mayor Michelle Wu. They were joined by representatives from key environmental organizations from Boston Harbor Now, Stone Living Lab, Trustees of Reserves and Harbor Keepers.
New climate resilience solutions are being deployed to protect East Boston’s environmental justice community from sea level rise. Community members shared their experiences of local climate change vulnerability to flooding and flooding.
One area of focus for Prince and Princess is how coastal transformation projects can better mitigate climate change risks and promote equity among East Boston’s diverse residents.
Boston Harbor’s Current Stone Living Lab, which researches and tests nature-based ecological restoration solutions in Boston’s waterfront, is announcing a major collaboration with Earthshot 2021 Finalist Living Seawalls.
The company designs panels that mimic natural habitats such as rock pools and mangrove roots that fit into new or existing waterfront infrastructure to promote marine biodiversity. Two stations on Boston Harbor will have such panels installed in the coming months.

The Prince and Princess of Wales attended the Boston Celtics’ game against the Miami Heat at Boston’s TD Garden on Wednesday.
The royal couple were seen sitting courtside cheering on the game. He was joined by Massachusetts Governor-elect Maura Haley and Boston Mayor Michelle Wu.
Chants of “USA, USA” erupted from the crowd as the couple’s presence was announced and their faces appeared on the giant screen. A buzz can also be heard.
