Vela Lovell will star opposite Joel McHale in the upcoming Fox series “Animal Control.”
The single-camera series was originally ordered at Fox in June, with McHale joining the show in mid-October.
The show is described as a “comedy workplace drama following a group of animal control workers whose lives are complicated because animals are simple but people are simple.”
Lovell will star as Emily. According to her official character, she is the “sweet-natured and incredibly sweet boss of the animal control yard. She may be above herself in her work, but she is loved by her team. That would be a contrast to McHale’s character Frank, a “pretentious and conniving” ex-cop who is fired after trying to expose corruption in the department.
Lovell has starred as “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” on The CW, “Dollface” on Hulu, “Mr. Mayor” on NBC, and “As We See It” on Amazon. She also lent her voice to the animated Netflix series “She-Ra and the Princesses of Power.” On the film side, Lovell has been in features such as “The Great Sick” and “A Clüsterfünke Christmas”.
She is supported by Verve and Industry Entertainment.
“Animal Control” is expected to debut on Fox in mid-season. The show will be Fox’s first fully owned live-action comedy. It comes from writers and producers Bob Fisher, Rob Greenberg and Dan Sterling, and Tad Quill is executive producing. McHale will also executive produce in addition to the stars. Produced by Fox Entertainment Studios.
