In a new interview with GQ UK, Sydney Sweeney revealed that social media users have tagged her family members “Euphoria” in posts that show her naked. In the first season of the Emmy-winning HBO drama, Sweeney’s character Cassie was exposed to a nude photo leak. Those same images from the show were screen-captured by viewers and circulated online.
“It’s gotten to the point where it’s taking a toll on my family,” Sweeney said (via Insider). “My cousins don’t need this. It is absolutely disgusting and unfair. You have a character who goes through the process of being a person who has sex at school and then an audience member who does the same.
Although social media users have informed her family members about her nudity, Sweeney responded, “Not anymore,” when asked if she was bothered by viewers sharing her nude pictures. The Emmy nominee added, “I think this is hilarious. I am an artist and I play a character. It makes me want to play characters that make people even more angry.”
Speaking to The Guardian last year, Sweeney said she was working hard to separate herself from her character Cassie so as not to be emotionally hurt by the “Euphoria” nudity that was circulating on social media.
“To be honest, after ‘Euphoria’ I had to stop caring or thinking [screengrabs] Because the little pictures on the character’s phone blew up all over the place,” Sweeney said. “I’m very different from my characters, and when I see pictures like this or when I’m tagged in pictures like this – I think it’s crazy that I’m the one who can be naked on social media and I don’t allow it. It is, but that’s another story – I removed myself from it. I identified. I was like, ‘Oh, that’s Cassie. Cassie, I’m having a good day.'”
Sweeney participated Various Earlier this year, a series of “Actresses” and “Euphoria’s” safe set insisted that she was seen naked on camera.
“It’s a very safe environment. I’m very fortunate to come in at a time when there’s a lot of thought in this process, and now we have close relationship coordinators,” Sweeney told Christina Ricci. “I’m incredibly confident in my body through Cassie.”
Sweeney will return for a third season of “Euphoria” in 2023. She also has a handful of high-profile film projects on the way, including Sony’s “Spider-Man” universe movie “Madame Web” and the “Barbarella” reboot.
