As if Prince Andrew wasn’t embarrassed yet, a music TV special has been produced to further indulge the British royal status.

Featuring Harry Enfield, one of Britain’s most famous entertainers, “Prince Andrew: The Musical” “focuses on the key events, relationships and controversies of Andrew’s life, including a re-examination of HRH’s bombshell interview with Emily Maitlis,” per the liner notes.

Andrew’s infamous 2019 interview with then “Newsnight” anchor Mythlis was widely mocked and condemned and proved to be the main reason for Andrew’s banishment from public life.

The musical was written by Kieran Hodgson, who also plays Andrew.

“Kevin & Perry Go Large” star Enfield stars as ex-prime minister Tony Blair, while Emily Maitlis plays “Starstruck” Emma Sidney.

Joining them are Munya Chawa (“Practice Teacher”) as Prince Charles, Jenny Bede (“Danger”) as Andrew’s ex-wife Sarah Ferguson (nicknamed Fergie), Joe Wilkinson as a newsagent and Baga Chipz as Margaret Thatcher.

The hour-long special, which airs on Channel 4 in the UK in December, features seven original musical numbers. Among them are “I’m Nailed,” a “high-octane duet composed after Duke’s ‘Newsnight’ interview,” and the love ballad “You’ll Be My Ex-Wife” sung as a duet. between Andrew and Fergie.

Hodgson wrote the lyrics to the music and co-wrote the score with Freddie Tapner. Chawa wrote the lyrics to “Obey” (“a provocative single in which Prince Charles reflects on past and present royal scandals,” according to the band) by Pippa Cleary.

Prince Andrew’s story is tragic and ironic, so why not add ‘music’ for good measure? said Hodgson. “Some may find the prospect of writing and performing their first television musical overwhelming. i am not. I found it absolutely terrifying. But we’ve pulled out all the stops, put every penny on the screen, and let’s rip on an institution that might just choose to forget all of this. Plus, I’ve been on the trampoline for a while. Rejoice, world! “

The musical is produced by Hat Trick Productions with Adam Reeve producing. Stu Mather and Jimmy Mulville are executive producing and Hodgson is an associate producer. Channel 4 Commissioning Editor Simran Shah and Head of Entertainment Phil Harris commissioned the special.

Mather said: “What better way to celebrate the festive season than with a musical that pokes fun at the country’s highest-profile pizza lover. It’s been a lot of fun assembling an incredibly talented cast for this all-singing, all-dancing (but no sweat) and we can’t wait for you to see it.

“Prince Andrew: The Musical” is the latest in a series of projects inspired by Britain’s royal family as a cultural icon (loved and hated) in recent years, with Queen Elizabeth II having international moments. “The Crown” hit Netflix’s final season in September with a funeral. Both Maitlis and former “News Tonight” producer Sam McAllister have sold dramas that rival the now-famous interview.

The UK’s public service Channel 4 has previously produced news-inspired music TV specials, most notably “Porn the Music” in 2003.
