Misty Copeland Reflects on New Book, ‘The Wind at My Back’

By | December 5, 2022

In her 20-year career at American Ballet Theater, principal dancer Misty Copeland has broken down countless racial barriers on her journey to the top.

She chronicles those successes and the struggles to reach them in a new book, “The Wind at My Back.” It is written through the lens of Misty’s relationship with a woman she describes as her North Star. That would be her mentor, ballerina Raven Wilkinson.

In a friendship that spanned cities and continents, Misty said, conversations “seemed like a legendary one-on-one master class. Raven took that beautiful and rich teaching tradition and made it feel tailored to me.

Be sure to tune in next Tuesday for our “Morning in an Authors Week” series as we sit down with actress and producer Shetal Sheth to discuss her picture book, “Making Happiness.”
