One of the streamer’s biggest contributions to this year’s Halloween lineup is the terrifying new British horror film “Matriarch.”
In the film, after an overdose nearly takes her life, Laura Burch escapes the pressures of the advertising world to return to her roots. Accepting an invitation home from her estranged mother, Laura hopes that her time in the isolated English village will help calm the demons raging within her. She soon discovers that the townspeople are all harboring an unspeakable dark secret – a secret that involves not only her mother, but also her own terrible fate.
The cast includes Jemima Roper (“Black Dahlia,” “The Girlfriend Experience”), Kate Dickey (“Red Road,” “Northman”), Frank Ashman (“Time,” “Here I Come”) and Keith David Bartlett.
“The Matriarch” is written and directed by Ben Stein (“Monsterland 2”). Executive producers include David Wharton Brooks, Arby Pedrosian and Jenna Cavell with Sharp House producers Ian Sharp and Eoin O’Faolaine and associate producer Alexa Waugh. The film was developed and produced by 20th Digital Studios, which also created another Hulu original horror, the modern creature feature “Grimcutty.”

Hulu originals in the horror space also include “Blood Books,” based on Clive Barker’s classic anthology. “Hellraiser,” a remake of Barker’s 1987 horror classic. In the year Producer of the 1989 horror satire “Bad Hair”; and the monthly horror series “Into Darkness.”
The Halloween season on Hulu also features classic horror shows including “Monster House,” “The Hand that Rocks the Cradle,” “The Blair Witch Project” and “A Haunted House.”
