By | November 19, 2022

Comedian Marc Maron, host of the popular podcast “WTF With Marc Maron,” is hosting a special on HBO in 2023. The comedy hour will feature all-new content and will be taped in front of a live audience on New York. York City Hall December 8

“All my life I’ve wanted to do an HBO special. All my life. Not since I started doing comedy, but since I started watching comedy as a kid. That was where the real comedy happened. Always. I am honored to work with them. It’s been a few years and the watch I’ve been working on is very moving and personal,” Maron said. “I believe HBO will do it right because they have the courage to have an attitude as a network. And they find it deeply funny.

Maron has four stand-up comedy specials under her belt, including 2013’s “Thinking” and 2015’s “More Later” on Epix, as well as 2017’s “Too Real” and 2020’s “Last Fun” on Netflix. His interview-style podcast — which launched in 2009 and boasts 55 million listeners — has hosted celebrity guests over the years, including former US President Barack Obama, Kate Winslet and Robin Williams. His conversation with Williams recently became the first one-on-one podcast episode to be entered into the US National Recording Registry.

Outside of comedy and podcasting, Maron starred in the Netflix comedy drama “GLOW” and the IFC series “Maron.” Most recently, he starred alongside Joaquin Phoenix in 2019’s “Joker,” the Aretha Franklin biopic “Respect” and Netflix’s action-crime tentpole “Spencer Secret.” He also lent his voice to the Dreamworks heist comedy “Bad Guys” with Sam Rockwell and “DC League of Super-Pets” with Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart and Keanu Reeves.

“We are longtime fans of Mark, from his podcast to his fearless stand,” said Nina Rosenstein, HBO’s executive producer of programming. “The new watch is deeply personal and very funny. This long overdue collaboration is special for us.

The untitled special will be directed by Steven Feinartz and produced by Avalon (HBO’s “Last Week Tonight with John Oliver”). Executive producers include David Martin, Kelly Van Valkenburg and Maron.
