Keshet International appointed Keren Shahar as CEO

Longtime Keshet executive Keren Shahar has been named CEO of Keshet International, succeeding Alon Shtruzman.

Struzman’s departure was first announced in September. A 10-year Keshet executive will step down at the end of the year, while Shahar — who most recently served as COO and president of distribution — will begin in the CEO role on Jan. 1, 2023.

Shahar is a pioneer in the export of Israeli formats, and has helped raise the country’s international profile for a wide range of traveling format IP. She first joined Keshete Media Group in 2004 and was appointed Format Manager in 2006, overseeing the sale of foreign cachet formats.

Two years later, in 2008, she was responsible for the local adaptation of licensed formats such as “Drop Money”, “Make Me Baby” and “MasterChef” in Israel for the acquisitions department of Kesht Broadcasting.

During her 10-year tenure, overseeing the business and operational aspects of the company’s operations, Shahar was responsible for the distribution of several scripted formats, including “Prisoners of War,” Showtime’s multi-Emmy winner “Homeland,” and “False Flag” and “Heroes Fly,” respectively. Follow them as “Doubt” and “Echo 3” adapted for Apple TV+. Shahar has sold such unscripted formats as “Boom!”, “Singletown,” “Deal With It!,” “The Hit List” and “Rising Star.”

Shahar is the CEO of Keshet International, overseeing all of the company’s operations, including a network of production companies and a distribution center in Tel Aviv, Keshet International, Keshet UK, Tresor and Keshet Tresor Fiction in Germany, Keshet Studios in the US, and a majority stake in Greenbird Media.

She also works to expand Keshet International’s global product portfolio; She will also work on growing the catalog of international dramas, original entertainment shows and formats with a view to building the distribution side of the business.

Shahar said: “Having the privilege to lead a company like Keshet International is more than I ever imagined when I started in Keshet 18 years ago. I wanted to be with people who ‘made television’. I want to thank Alon for his mentorship and friendship, and for showing me what endless optimism can achieve. Avi Nir, CEO of Keshet Media Group, was effusive in his praise for Shahar, and mentioned “Echo 3,” the company’s upcoming “Heroes Fly” adaptation for Apple TV+.
