Kate Winslet has discussed her experience with daughter Mia Tripleton for the first time.

To promote the London-set feature-length TV drama “I Am Ruth” — in which Winslet and Tripleton recreate their relationship in a fictional setting — the English actor spoke about the aspects of his life in a question-and-answer session about how art looks like.

“Definitely, there was some personal overlap,” Winslet said. “It’s a mother/daughter story, inevitable. We know how to push each other’s buttons. Winslet praised her daughter’s performance, saying that she “got to know” Tripleton every day during filming.

Winslet was last seen in Coming in 2021 from the acclaimed American drama “Mare of Easttown”, “I Root” marks the continuation of UK Broadcasting Channel 4’s BAFTA-winning and female-led anthology series “I Am”. The brainchild of British writer and director Dominic Savage, the two seasons to date have included performances from the likes of Vicky McClure, Samantha Morton and Lesley Manville.

Set for release in the UK on December 8, “I Am Ruth” is produced by Winslet and Savage. The result is a poignant and timely narrative that focuses on mental health, parental despair, and a teenager’s path to freedom from the pressures of social media. It’s a haunting film destined to linger long in the memory – and a conversation starter, too.

“When you look at your kids, ‘What am I going to say? what can i do? Where’s the manual?’ So much we do together as we go; Including myself,” Winslet said.

“A lot of times, when you’re someone in the public eye, or whatever, the media puts you in this ideal of perfection. And I hated that ever so much. Anyway, I’ve always been a dirty celebrity.” she says. We wanted to tell a story here that feels contemporary, clear and true, even though there are some very difficult parts to watch.

While the plot was scripted, the written dialogue was completely absent. “Not one word from our mouths was written. All that we said, in a moment, he did on the day; Nothing has been written about the Oscar winner. “That makes what she does doubly amazing, because as a young actress it can be very challenging to find the courage to speak your mind and present an idea.

Asked if she had to ignore her parents’ instincts to comfort Tripleton during difficult scenes, Winslet said, “There were times when I thought, ‘Oh my god, she’s doing it, she’s really doing it.’ I want to hug him and stop him.”

Still, Winslet said the experience was “really special” and said she was “excited” to have it. “I didn’t respect her before. [but] I have been given new things to respect and appreciate about my son,” she said.

Elsewhere, Winslet discussed the “embarrassment” parents can feel in raising their children and how she wanted to address that in the show. “‘Did I fail? Was I too busy? Didn’t I listen? Should I have done more; did he say more?’ These are all common questions and common feelings. I didn’t want to do anything [in “I Am Ruth”] I felt fake.”

In an interview with Difference Earlier this year, Winslet revealed her continued passion for acting, calling it “joy and happiness.”
