Global Screen has sold “Munich 72,” an Israeli documentary about the massacre of Israeli athletes in Munich in 1972, to Poland’s Canal+, Italy’s Broadcasting La 7, Spain’s Film and Slovenia’s RTV.

The affiliates, SIPUR (formerly Tadmor Entertainment) and Israel’s Channel 8, announced the executive team behind the documentary: Russ McCarroll, Michael Schmidt, Emilio Schenker and Gideon Tadmor for SIPUR; Telepool’s Jan Fruman, Julia Weber and Ulrich Schröder; and Hot Channel 8’s Darrie Shay, Rinat Klein and Dorit Hessel.

“We’ve seen strong sales momentum for ‘Munich ’72’ going into Mipcom, and we’re in advanced negotiations with several other buyers we’ll meet at Cannes,” said Weber, Global Screen’s head of international sales and acquisitions. “We expect these deals to be announced soon.”

“Munich 72” was released on Yes VOD in Israel in September to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the Holocaust.

The documentary is directed by Roman Shumunov (“Return to Chernobyl”, “Here and Now”, “Babylon Dreamers”) and produced by Ronen Machlis-Balzam (“Berenstein”). Written by Russ McCarroll, accomplished documentary writer/producer/creator (“The 44th President: In His Own Words,” “Barbarian Rises,” “World Wars,” “Pawn Stars”), and investigative journalist/filmmaker Shani. “Munich 72”, which combines documentary and fiction, is supported by new distributed files. It shows unseen German documents detailing crisis discussions in the Israeli cabinet and discussions in the German crisis room where the event was held. This newly revealed information is the basis of the series’ dramatic recreations.
