FX has given a pilot order to “The Trenches” animated series from Drew Goddard. The half-hour comedy follows a modern family of monster hunters, according to the network.

Goddard, the creator and executive producer behind Netflix’s “Daredevil,” wrote the pilot and serves as executive producer for Goddard Textiles along with Sarah Eisberg. The project is being developed by the 20th Television Animation. Goddard is currently under contract with ABC. Floyd County Productions will provide animation services for the pilot.

Goddard received two Emmy nominations in 2019 and 2020 for the comedy series “The Good Place,” for which Goddard created the show. The show closed in 2020 after a four-season run.

On the film side, Goddard received an Academy Award nomination in 2016 for Best Adapted Screenplay for “The Martian,” starring Matt Damon and based on Andy Weir’s novel. He also served as a writer on “World War Z,” “The Cabin in the Woods” and “Bad Times at the El Royale,” among other titles. His television credits include “Alias,” “Buffy The Vampire Slayer,” “Angel” and “Lost.”

The television screenwriter, director and producer first signed an exclusive multi-year deal with 20th Century Fox Television in 2019, under which he agrees to write, create, direct and develop new TV series for the studio across all platforms. The deal is the first to close following the Walt Disney Co.’s purchase of 20th Century Fox Television.

Goddard is repped by UTA and Hanson, Jacobson.
