Welcome to Vault 33!

Amazon’s upcoming “The Fall” TV series, an adaptation of the popular post-apocalyptic video game series, has gotten its first look, and it appears to take place, at least in part, in an underground vault called Vault 33.

Released by Amazon on Tuesday and celebrating the 25th anniversary of the “Fall” video game franchise, the first look image shows the backs of two “Fall” characters wearing blue-and-yellow jumpsuits. They both stare at the open door of a huge vault that leads to a blindingly bright hole to the outside world. In a “fallen” world, citizens are sheltered in secret vaults from nuclear radiation, wasteland and deadly bandits. In the games, Vault 33 is located in San Diego and is one of the smallest shelters, with only six people allowed inside.

Like many of the “Fallout” video games, the Amazon series is set in a world in the late 1940s where America’s hopes for the future explode in 2077 with nuclear war.

“Fall” will star Walton Goggins, Ella Purnell, Kyle MacLachlan, Xelia Mendes-Jones and Aaron Moten.

The “Fall” episode was produced and written by Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, who previously produced HBO’s dystopian sci-fi series “Westworld” through their Kilter Films banner, in collaboration with Amazon and the “Fall” video game studios Bethesda Game Studios and Bethesda Softworks. Nolan and Joy will executive produce with Athena Wickham for Kilter Films, Todd Howard for Bethesda Game Studios, and James Altman for Bethesda Softworks. Lionsgate is producing the sequel.
