Christina Applegate makes first public appearance with MS diagnosis

Christina Applegate attended the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Monday, Nov. 14, where the Emmy winner made her first public appearance since announcing her multiple sclerosis diagnosis in 2021. Applegate was originally set to receive a star on the 2020 Walk of Fame. But the pandemic delayed the ceremony. In the year She announced her MS diagnosis on Twitter in 2021 during the production of the third and final Netflix comedy, “To My Death.”

Before Applegate’s appearance, she was honored by her “Married…with Children” co-stars Cathy Sagal and David Faustino at the prestigious walk. Sagal gasped as she told Applegate, “You’re not alone. We are all here. Applegate’s “Dead to Me” co-star Linda Cardellini and creator Liz Feldman were on hand to pay tribute to Applegate.

Applegate took the stage at the Walk of Fame ceremony, assisted by Sagal, who stayed on stage with her during her speech. Applegate was in tears as she talked about her daughter and thanked her for supporting her through her MS diagnosis.

“The most important person in this world is my daughter,” Applegate said. “You are more than you know. You are so beautiful and kind and smart and interesting. I am blessed every day that I wake up and take you to school…Thank you for standing by me through it all.”

Applegate called out her fans in the audience, saying, “Beautiful,” and adding, “Every one of you. I love you [all] so much.”

In an interview with Difference Ahead of the famous walk, Applegate said filming the final “Die To Me” movie while battling MS was “probably harder than you think.” The actor had to use a wheelchair to get ready.

“I was diagnosed while we were working,” Applegate said. “I had to call everyone and say, ‘I have multiple sclerosis. Like, what better for me!’ And then it was kind of about learning—which we all learn—what I could do.

“They’re Dead to Me” Season 3 premieres Nov. 17 on Netflix, and will be Applegate’s first new project since announcing her MS. “People are going to see me as a person with a disability for the first time, and it’s really hard,” Applegate said. Difference about the show’s debut and her first public appearances, which are also set to include the premiere of “Die To Me” on November 15.

Applegate teased her public appearance in a viral tweet last month. The actress posted a picture of the different canes she’s considering using on red carpets.

“This is my first since being diagnosed with MS,” Applegate wrote on Twitter. “Walking sticks are now part of my new normal. Thanks @neowalksticks for these beauties. Expect to see them cut things for a week.”
